Christmas Carolling Party at the Ankara Hotel

Last night was a magical moment for my students and me as we approached the Ankara Hotel after first gathering at our flat for a cup of hot apple cidar.  We joined up with others to listen to the children from the Turkish school sing several Christmas songs.  Then we got onto the platform to sing five songs with piano and violin accompaniment.  The full moon was out and the outside lights made the whole place look beautiful.  My friend, Tanya Smith, who is a resident musician at the Ankara Hotel sang “Oh Holy Night.”  Yes it was back 2,000 years ago and it was last night.  I think my students enjoyed themselves as we walked back up the hill to our flat to eat and watch part of “Sound of Music.”
